The Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) and National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) officially signed a cooperation agreement on November 19. Both parties aim to advance technology research and development (R&D), talent cultivation, and equipment sharing as core objectives, joining hands to build a cross-domain academic and research cooperation platform, in order to foster technology R&D, academic exchange, and industrial upgrading.
The content of this cooperation agreement comprises personnel joint employment/exchange, technology research collaboration, shared research facilities and equipment, as well as the potential establishment of cooperative research centers or research laboratories in specific fields. Both parties seek to deepen R&D capabilities in materials science, metal processing, and smart manufacturing, and aim to accelerate technological innovation and research translation through a cross-institutional cooperation model, thereby building an R&D ecosystem that unites universities and research institutes.
NSYSU President Chih-Peng Li stated that given the rapid development of smart manufacturing, advanced materials, and green technologies, collaboration between academic institutions and research organizations has become a key catalyst in promoting technological innovation. This impressive cooperation combines NSYSU's strengths in fundamental research and forward-looking technology with MIRDC's advantages in industrial application technology and industry chain integration, creating a more comprehensive R&D and talent cultivation environment.
MIRDC Chairman Chia-Ju Liu pointed out that MIRDC has accumulated years of R&D capabilities in materials development, metal processing, and smart manufacturing, which can synergize with NSYSU's accomplishments in fundamental research, materials science, and engineering technology. The cooperation will effectively integrate the talents of universities and R&D strength of legal entities, completely connecting every step from academic research to technology implementation. This will in turn provide stronger technical support for southern Taiwan's industries and inject new momentum into Taiwan's industrial development.
This partnership will enable both parties to jointly establish an impactful technology R&D and talent cultivation platform in southern Taiwan, systematically linking each stage from basic research, technology R&D, and clinical verification to industrial deployment. The goal is to speed up the translation of R&D outcomes, create high added value for the industry, and make greater contributions to Taiwan's technological development and industrial upgrading.
