The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

MIRDC and NCHU, catching the wave of intelligence, held an eye-catching presentation session

MIRDC and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) jointly established the Smart Manufacturing and Metal Technology Strategic Alliance in 2020 to provide a comprehensive platform for bilateral cooperation on forward-looking research and specific technological topic discussions in promoting technological advancement in the industry. A presentation of research results from 2020's bilateral collaboration was held at the International Conference Hall of NCHU on January 11, where research results in five major areas, including smart manufacturing, advanced micro manufacturing, advanced materials, minimally invasive medical materials, and energy, were displayed.

According to NCHU, in response to the challenges in the global market, smart manufacturing is of urgent importance. NCHU has long been committed to the cultivation of talents in smart machinery and manufacturing technology, and has not only characteristic laboratories at campus, but also offers many related courses. Therefore, the strategic alliance includes a guidance council formed by NCHU President Fu-Sheng Hsueh and MIRDC President Chiu-Feng Lin, who would guide the direction of the operation and effectively integrate the research capabilities, equipment and talents of both teams to explore more promising topics or R&D directions, and continue to enhance the results to transform the industry.

Chiu-Feng Lin, the President of MIRDC, highlighted that MIRDC has been guiding the upgrade of metal and other related manufacturing industries in Taiwan for many years, and is committed to the core technology development in the Center of Excellence (CoE). The results of the first-year bilateral cooperation are exhibited in this presentation, including nine research results on advanced micro manufacturing with electrolytic polishing/heat dissipation, aluminum and magnesium alloys/graphene-like advanced materials, minimally invasive endoscopic operation, bone growth medical materials, flow battery, intelligent manufacturing of agricultural products, etc. For example, the DC-Uninterruptible Power Supply System (DC-UPS) with energy-storing flow battery utilizes high-frequency power conversion technology, which meets the AC (90~264Vac) characteristics of global input wide-range voltage, low harmonic requirements, thin and short. Due to its long-life cycle and high security, DC-UPS may also be applied to residential and commercial network access and security monitoring peripheral devices (e.g. DC network power supply equipment, webcams, CCTV, etc.), as well as having a promising prospect of application in renewable energy and grid regulation. The alliance aims to explore more innovative technologies to enhance Taiwan’s research capabilities.
