To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

MIRDC Develops New Processes to Transform Traditional Industries

MIRDC's 2020 preliminary R&D achievements presentation ended successfully a few days ago. The event was also combined with the grand Kaohsiung Automation Industry Exhibition, which lasted 4 consecutive days. On the opening day (August 6), Chih-Ching Yang, Deputy Director General of the Industrial Development Bureau and Dr. Ren-Yi Lin, Chairman of MIRDC visited MIRDC’s exhibition site. This year’s MIRDC’s R&D achievements presentation focused on several innovative systems and process technologies such as electrochemical machining, stress analysis, equipment monitoring, magnesium alloy surface treatment, forging process design, and microsphere process. At the same time, through the use of multimedia marketing techniques, MIRDC proactively promotes the recognition of the R&D achievements that have won international awards such as roughing and cementing. Moreover, in response to topics such as global pandemic prevention, micro-manufacturing, and high-value materials, MIRDC also showcased technologies such as self-moving disinfection robots, micro-parts heat treatment, and high-nitrogen stainless steel material manufacturing processes in the automation exhibition area. Through systematic introduction of achievements, MIRDC will help solve the bottleneck of enterprise development, thereby adding value to the industry and opening up markets.

For global pandemic prevention, MIRDC developed the self-moving disinfection robot technology
MIRDC combined AGV with disinfection spray to create a safe and hygienic environmental maintenance method without getting anyone’s hands dirty. Any kind of disinfectant can be added to the self-moving disinfection robot. The robot is equipped with an ultrasonic sprayer, which can sterilize a certain area with AGV, thereby achieving fixed location, fixed amount, and scheduling performance to disinfect, sterilize, and kill bacteria without exposing personnel to dangerous environments.
For micro-manufacturing, MIRDC developed the micro-parts heat treatment technology
MIRDC pioneered the continuous micro-heat treatment system, which is specially designed for products with micro parts smaller than 2 mm in diameter. It is equipped with a customized module design. It can quickly replace the process module combination according to product or function requirements, including the feeding machine, carburizing quenching furnace, oil tank and collecting module, cleaning tank module, tempering furnace, and control system. The process combines visualization technology so that products are produced with no deformations and greater hardness; product quality is also improved from A to A+. Tests show excellent dimensional accuracy and wear resistance, and product quality not only exceeds that of current domestic products, but also reached the international standards.

For high-value materials, MIRDC developed the high-nitrogen stainless steel material manufacturing process technology
Carbon steel is generally high strength, but its corrosion resistance is extremely poor, while stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance due to its high nickel content, but its biggest disadvantage is its low strength. The traditional two-part (composite) self-tapping screws used in Taiwan is welded from carbon steel and SUS410 stainless steel, and the weld is prone to corrosion due to potential difference. MIRDC’s technology can increase the solubility of nitrogen and reduce the amount of nickel through the alloy design and manufacturing process, increase the tensile strength and yield strength of the stainless steel alloy, and reduce the corrosion rate and production cost to achieve economic benefits.

Dr. Ren-Yi Lin, chairman of MIRDC said that this presentation and the showcasing of technologies at the exhibition give the opportunity of exchanges and cooperation between MIRDC and enterprises and further promote the transformation and upgrading of related industries. The event attracted countless visitors and enthusiastic industry inquiries. In the future, MIRDC will continue to improve and implement R&D achievements to effectively help domestic industrial upgrading and development.
