MIRDC Presented Nine Innovative Research Results at the Medical Device Technology Transfer Agreement

Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) has been supported by the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs in the implementation of the Digital Guidance for Minimally Invasive Oral and Spine Surgery and Pathologic Diagnosis Medical Imaging System Development Project. On September 27th, MIRDC held a technology transfer agreement signing ceremony and completed 9 technology transferring and the patent licensing agreements with Taiwan companies. Medical device development results were displayed at the venue, focusing on precision oral prosthesis, next generation tooth root, rapid intraoral scanning, 3D image guided spine surgery, pathologic image screening, and physiological imaging. Besides showing its research capabilities in key medical devices and digital dentistry, MIRDC has also worked with the Strategic Alliance for Digital Dentistry Industry in driving dental technology upgrade; expanding the integration of domestic capabilities; developing differentiated key technologies; and enhancing the international competitiveness of products.

Organizations include Chang Hsin Biotech Co., Ltd., M.D.B.T. Co., Ltd., Apixia, Inc., Hung Chun Bio-s Co., Ltd., Qin Chuang Precision Technology Co., Ltd., Lian Zhan Industrial Co., Ltd., U-Chance Enterprises Co., Ltd., Toshin Precision Technology Co., Ltd., and the Dentistry Division of the Zuoying Branch of Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital, which have been taking part. The technology transfer agreement signing by each organization and MIRDC was witnessed by Dr. Chih-Lung Lin, the Vice President of MIRDC, and members of the strategic alliance. Total technology transfer amount reached over NT$25 million. This will allow research results to be developed into products, and drive constant innovation and development of the domestic medical device industry.

Observing global development trends, digital dentistry has become a new option for clinical treatment, and has been applied in integrated treatments. It not only improves the quality of treatment, but also improves the aesthetics and precision of dentures. After in-depth analysis and integration of dentists' clinical experience with dental instruments, MIRDC designed and produced dental implants, surgical instruments, and denture prosthesis and oral bone defect repair software. MIRDC is also developing a 3D intraoral scanning system, and establishing complete services for denture fabrication. It is guiding companies to utilize this technology for industrial transformation and developing a dental devices industry with high added value.

Dr. Chih-Lung Lin, the Vice President of MIRDC, indicated that with the support of government policy and resources, MIRDC will work together with domestic companies that have excellent dental products and develop a digital dentistry system to provide integrated services. This will be the basis for entering overseas markets. Along with the government's New Southbound Policy, MIRDC will help Taiwan's medical products enter Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia, developing key New Southbound markets for dental devices.
