MIRDC Unveils Taiwan Localization Pavilion at SEMICON Taiwan

Taiwan's annual demand on semiconductor equipment is approximately NT$380 billion. The Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs is therefore dedicated to upgrading the domestic semiconductor equipment and components manufacturing industry. The IDB commissioned Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) to implement the Optoelectronics and Semiconductor Equipment Industry Development Project, so as to provide the semiconductor equipment industry with logistics support. The project matches foreign equipment manufacturers with components suppliers for procurement in Taiwan, even establishing a supply chain. The project further integrates industry and research institutes for the development of key components, and forms an alliance for developing complete machines, while introducing international technologies to fill the technology gap in Taiwan. This assists domestic equipment manufacturers and has gained substantial results over the years. More equipment and components have successfully adopted by domestic foundries, assembly houses, and system integration companies. The output value of domestic semiconductor equipment and components has grown from NT$114.8 billion in 2014 to NT$147 billion in 2017, and export value has grown from NT$8.8 billion in 2014 to NT$32.5 billion in 2017.

MIRDC promoted project implementation fruitful results and increased the visibility of the domestic product market during Semicon Taiwan. The results were on display at booth K2442 on 1F of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from September 13th to 15th, 2017. Dr. Ren-yi Lin, the Chairman of the board of MIRDC, pointed out that MIRDC's Taiwan Localization Pavilion has brought together companies since 2015, so that they may jointly show Taiwan's capabilities with respect to semiconductor equipment and components during Semicon Taiwan. Numerous key products are on display in the pavilion and have struck a chord with many communities. This year followed the same format of last year for the pavilion with joint exhibitors including AblePrint Technology Co., Ltd., Creating Nano Technologies Inc., Applied Nano Technology Science Inc., Huaguo Electrical Machinery Co., Ltd., Taiwan Fylin Industrial Co., Ltd., Apply Tech Co., Ltd., and Limo System Technology Co., Ltd. Numerous important industrial technologies and products were displayed, including advanced packaging bonding process, plasma application equipment, magnetic fluid vacuum sensor, precision processing applications, automated delivery equipment, FFU system integration, and vacuum components. MIRDC hopes that domestic and foreign buyers are able to gain an in-depth understanding of Taiwan's capabilities in semiconductor equipment and components through industrial analysis from multiple perspectives, as well as excellent technology services.

In the process of entering the supply chain of foreign companies, domestic equipment and components manufacturers learn the foreign companies' quality management regulations and technical standards, also grasp future product trends. This will eventually elevate the level of domestic components design and manufacturing technologies, and allow domestic companies to enter the global supply chain of foreign companies, creating a complete ecosystem for the semiconductor equipment industry in Taiwan. This will also reinforce the mid-stream structure of the domestic semiconductor equipment industry, increase the industry's competitiveness, and secure the niche of Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
