2014 07 MIRDC and Canxin Group signed an MOU to establish in Vietnam a service window that introduces R&D technologies for precision fabrication, and this move was widely applauded by Taiwanese companies in Vietnam, convinced that their operations momentum will be geared up with this closer connection with MIRDC.
2014 07 MIRDC and NASA Performance Review Institute (PRI) signed an MOU, at a ceremony attended by MIRDC CEO Michael Fu and PRI COO Joe Pinto, with the aim of establishing in Taiwan a diverse network of NADCAP certification and training, which will help Taiwan companies in parts and components of the aerospace industry better connect to the international supply chain and gain further grounds in the international markets in a win-win situation.
2014 07 MIRDC broke into new grounds again on July 31, 2014, with the signing of an MOU with the US Aerospace Performance Review Institute (PRI). At the ceremony witnessed by participants from the aerospace industry, MIRDC, represented by CEO Fu Zhong-he and PRI, represented by COO Joe Pinto, joined hands to develop a diverse NADCAP certification and training network, with the aim of facilitating Taiwan suppliers of aerospace parts and components in making entry into the global supply chain, thus expanding their global presence in a win-win situation.
2014 06 MIRDC has successfully developed a Dropping Pills Technology that has wide applications for wrapping extracts of Chinese herbs, medicinal plants, natural products or other health-sustaining ingredients, e.g. Salvia miltiorrhiza, Antrodia camphorata, Monascaceae and Ophiocordyceps sinensis, into sublingual dropping pills. This technology has been transferred to IVORIST, a leading medical machinery company in Taiwan, to produce manufacturing devices that are slated for market launch in June 2014, thereby helping Taiwan companies grasp business opportunities in the health-care food market.
2014 05 MIRDC, supported by the MOEA Industrial Development Bureau, began in 2013 to work on developing a 2.4-Ton full electrical vehicle in partnership with Tatung, NKL Gears, Dar Don Vehicles, Ko’s Automobile and Chroma. Currently, this vehicle features DC 320V Lithium-iron battery set and has an expected 75-km cruise range (unloaded). Its battery set is designed with an adjustable capacity that enables switching between charging and discharging modes, and the vehicle is powered by liquid-cooled AC motor with a 35kW rated output and 80kW at peak. This vehicle employs automated manual transmission, which enjoys a 15% efficiency gain against a shiftless design, and its battery has a longer service life enabled by an effectively lower start current. The fact that this vehicle has been jointly developed by Taiwan companies provides confidence in product guaranty and maintenance and subsequent performance improvements. Currently this vehicle is undergoing durability test and its multi-staged shift and CTV transmission versions can be expected in the future.
2014 04 Led by MIRDC, a delegation of Taiwan medical device suppliers attended the 6th MEDTEC JAPAN from April 9-11, 2014, in Tokyo. At the trade show, six Taiwan companies - MEM, CTC, NSH, Jieh-Ming, GoldenBridge, and Geon - commended a strong presence as the Strategic Alliance of Medical Device and Technology Industries, and had entered a partnership with medical device suppliers from Hiroshima, thus successfully promoting Taiwan companies at the international market.
2014 03 MIRDC began in 2010 to develop the latest high-performance porous aerostatic bearing technologies in response to the industrial trend of using small-sized motion platen modules for precision manufacturing. The expected benefits include higher self-production rates for manufacturing processes and inspection/testing devices in Taiwan as well as established technologies for mid- to high-end, small-sized, sub-nano/nano class precision motion platens. The smallest aerostatic platen so far developed by MIRDC has specifications as below: size - 230x150x66mm; movement - 60mm; load - 150N; and platen straightness - 0.8μm/60mm. MIRDC is dedicated to creating an infrastructure system, including motion platen performance-testing, precision measuring and application technology testing, which supports the development of the aerostatic motion platen industry, thus laying a solid foundation for critical motion platen technologies for Taiwan industries
2014 02 MIRDC and NCKU Hospital, after three years of joint efforts, have successfully developed a magnetic-induction thermal ablation therapy that is safe and simple. The magnetic-induction thermal ablation needle, guided with ultrasonic scan, is inserted through skin to reach legion, where the needle is then heated up to 80-100℃ by the magnetic field generated through induction coils to kill the target cancer cells. This method is a safer alternative course of treatment for patients who are not suitable for general anesthesia or are in high-risk conditions like high blood-pressure and diabetic. Currently in its clinical trial period, this technology has potential applications for treating other diseases and MIDRC will strive to further develop it into a regular medical option.
2014 01 MIDRC becomes home to MOEA Office for Promoting South Taiwan Industries Starting in 2014, MOEA Office for Promoting South Taiwan Industries has been relocated to MIRDC to maximize the effects of combined resources of both organizations with continuous services in policy-making, industrial promotion and industry-specific marketing. Currently MIDRC plans to engage itself in this new task along three dimensions, which include industry-specific economic policies that connect central and local governments and precise industry-specific strategies to be developed with the help of research-based think tanks. Also, in the aspect of industrial promotion, MIDRC will take proactive measures to integrate adequate R&D and consulting resources in South Taiwan from the industries, the academia and research institutions to help companies tap into government resources. Ultimately, MIDRC strives to showcase achievements of industries in South Taiwan so as to bring out the full potential of local industries and highlight their unique features and values.
2014 01 MIDRC introduces elliptical vibration cutting technology, adding extra miles to micro-mold processing With 3C/optoelectronics sectors becoming a priority of Taiwan’s economic development in recent years, demands for micro products and molds have been increasing. More diverse mold materials coupled with increased product complexity and demand for micronization pose specific challenges to mainstream techniques like micro electric discharge machining, ultraprecision machining, laser beam machining, supersonic machining, and semiconductor processing. By introducing ultraprecision vibration cutting technology that combines diamond cutting with ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting, MIRDC has made available another key processing technology that will assist domestic industries in making advances in high precision mold processing by overcoming technology bottlenecks in mirror finishing of steel molds and finishing of special materials. Looking ahead, MIRDC will work with optical and mold factories in Taiwan to develop optical molds without nickle coating as well as processing technologies for high-precision superhard alloys and hard and brittle materials, with a wide range of applications in glass molds and glass substrates and other products like glass lenses and bio-medical devices.
