The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

Vacuum continuous casting technology

The vacuum continuous casting technology combines the vacuum refining and continuous casting technology and has always been one of main manufacturing methods to produce high-class metal material and develop new material. The produced material is equipped with high quality, high purity (purity can reach more than 5N) and excellent evenness. Through the rear process, such as traditional drawing and hydrostatic extrusion, the produced material is made into fine wire and tube that can be applied in the bonding wire, conductivity tube and production and R&D of high class material for 3C, information, home appliances and semi-conductor industries. Since Taiwan becomes one of main manufacturers for worldwide electronics and semi-conductor products, it demonstrates tremendous demand on high quality metal fine wire. However the metal fine wire requires a considerable high standard of quality and purity so that most of metal fine wire relies on importation. Additionally equipment and technology for mass production are introduced abroad. As a result, the vacuum continuous casting technology, developed by Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC), can immensely increase the R&D capabilities of high quality fine metal material in Taiwan and promote the development of the related industries
