The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

Innovative experts of industry & research sectors intensively conduct exchange with Japanese and Korean authorities at Asia-Pacific micro-manufacturing technical forum

To upgrade R&D capabilities of domestic micro-manufacturing technology, MIRDC held Asia-Pacific micro-manufacturing technical forum at Kaohsiung headquarters of MIRDC and National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology on December 15 & 16. Sponsored by Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA, MIRDC invited the micro-technology experts from Japan and Korea to explain the latest status and the trend of micro-manufacturing technology and attract more than 100 participants from industry and academic sectors
During forum, professor Kuniaki Dohada of Japan Gifu University, Mr. Tetsuyuki Shimomura, managing director of Nagase Company, Dr. Yutaka Yamagata, director of Fuence Company, Mr. Yu Zhan-Bo, director of Technical Department, Sodick Company and Dr. Ro, Seung Kook of Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials specifically stated the current status and future development trend of global micro-manufacturing technology, while MIRDC technical experts also provided their viewpoints to domestic micro-manufacturing industry with the following key points:
1.The advanced countries gradually invest in huge manpower and resources on R&D of micro-manufacturing technology, among which Japan and Germany take the lead, Korea and Taiwan come right after and is followed by the States, yet the States takes proactive action recently that will bring another new global development.
2.In the future, the competitive manufacturing technology must be equipped with low equipment investment, highly complicated work piece can be manufactured and application of various materials. Compared with micro-manufacturing by silicon base technology and LIGA, micro-manufacturing technology exactly has these advantages.
3.Limited by domestic micro-manufacturing technology is not matured, the import value of domestic opto-electronics/3C micro components amounts more than NT$200 billion. If domestic industry can invest in the related R&D of micro-manufacturing technology at an earlier date, the huge business opportunities are ready to be grabbed.
Realizing the importance of micro-manufacturing technology, Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA instructs MIRDC to set up micro mold & forming common lab. At current stage, the common lab is equipped with machining, forming and inspection of axis-symmetrical micro components. In the future, the common lab will expand the capabilities required by the development of micro components with 3D complicated profile. By doing so, MIRDC can assist the domestic manufacturers to develop the complete micro-manufacturing technology to replace the imported products.
