MIRDC assists government to nurture wind power industry
Government proactively promotes wind power, the clean renewable energy. It is estimated that demand value of domestic wind power market will reach NT$70 billion in 2010. To grasp this business opportunity, Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), MOEA formally passed “Wind Turbine Industry Promotion Project” in April, 2005 and entrusted MIRDC to be responsible for implementation of wind turbine industry. It is expected to facilitate domestic wind turbine industry can smoothly enter into this field and establish the supply chain of localized turbine & components through related promotion measures.
Mr. Tsung-Wen Huang, associate project leader of wind turbine industry promotion R&D group at MIRDC indicates after government implements incentive for private-sector to set up wind power, the wind turbine industry poses a promising future, including Formosa Heavy, Ta Tung, Chung Hsin, Teco, Chin Fong and Horizon intend to join the development with focus on gear box, generator and blades. However these local made components must go through severe accreditation process to acquire the recognition of international large makers. Except product standards and certification mechanism, MIRDC conducts the planning from preliminary study to infrastructural setup, meanwhile is proactively in line with policies & measures of IDB for promotion.
Since government planned wind power as one important links of renewable energies, MIRDC successfully held a seminar on wind turbine on June 29, 2005 at GIS Convention Center of National Taiwan University with 145 participants. The seminar invited Dr. Henrik Kanstrup Jorgensen, technical vice president and Mr. Torvald Randeris, service manager of Vestas, Denmark to share their experiences on evaluation of wind farm setup, generator technology, offshore wind turbine, wind turbine service and maintenance technologies. Additionally MIRDC will set up “Wind Turbine Industry Alliance” to invite individuals or companies that are interested in this field to join as members. There are 50 local manufacturers and 20 individuals to express their willingness to join as members. The Alliance will provide the information of domestic & foreign industries, market and technology, meanwhile it will promote international cooperation & explore international market, conduct the cultivation & training of wind turbine talents.
