MIRDC and CPC jointly promote the safety development of Hydrogen energy applied in industry

On the 22nd of November, 2023, CPC Corporation, Taiwan and MIRDC signed a memorandum of cooperation on the "Hydrogen Energy High-Pressure Transmission and Storage Safety Detection Technology Alliance" at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center during the 2023 TASS Sustainable Taiwan Expo. Under the guidance of the Department of Industrial Technology (DOIT), MOEA, the MOU was signed by the two parties to declare to jointly promote the development of hydrogen energy transmission and storage safety detection technology and establish the cornerstone for the safe development of Taiwan's hydrogen energy industry.

To promote the development of Taiwan's hydrogen energy industry, provide critical testing support for Taiwan's hydrogen energy industry applications, and develop the domestic supply chain, it is essential to establish a complete hydrogen transmission and storage industry testing technology. In addition, this cooperation between domestic industry and R&D will also help CPC play a vital role in the net-zero carbon reduction supply chain and improve Taiwan's independent research and development technology of hydrogen energy materials and components.

Shun Chin Li, Chairman of the Board of CPC, stated that this alliance aims to achieve safe detection capabilities for high-pressure hydrogen in supporting CPC’s needs in various hydrogen energy applications, including hydrogen refuelling stations, storage and transportation applications, and mixed hydrogen combustion. Future cooperation will be in hydrogen energy detection technology. Establishing an essential foundation in the field will help ensure the safe application of hydrogen energy in Taiwan.

Ren Yi Lin, Chairman of the Board of MIRDC, stated that MIRDC will establish joint development projects between the two parties, including high-pressure hydrogen embrittlement detection and analysis technology, hydrogen energy material/hydrogen storage product testing, hydrogenation station safety monitoring, fixed storage tank technology, development and industrial application of mixed hydrogen burners, as well as functional testing technology of hybrid hydrogen burners. In the future, the two parties also plan to develop related performance testing technologies for metal materials, composite materials and components for hydrogen energy applications and work together to apply related non-destructive detection and analysis technologies for hydrogen transportation and storage.

The signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the two parties was held at the opening ceremony of TASS 2023, the Stage Sustainability. It would allow exhibitors and the public to deeply understand Taiwan's technical energy for safe application in the hydrogen energy industry and how domestic sectors and the R&D Institute contribute to it. MIRDC has continued to contribute to the development and safety of Taiwan's hydrogen energy industry. MIRDC has cooperated with CPC Corporation, Taiwan, to provide necessary direction and support for the future development of Taiwan's hydrogen energy industry and promote the advancement of the hydrogen energy industry to achieve sustainable development and environmental protection goals.
