HSPB Holds Business Conference To Promote Taiwan-Japan Cooperation

With Covid-19 making a comeback in 2021, the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau (HSPB), Ministry of Science and Technology held a Taiwan-Japan Medical Device Remote Procurement Conference on October 29, 2021 at the GIS HSP Convention Center to continue to help medical device companies develop the international market during the pandemic. Seven well-known Japanese companies were invited for one-on-one online matchmaking meetings with Somnics, RedEye, Insight Medical Solutions, Energy Resources International, BROADSIMS, and Instant NanoBiosensors. Discussions were lively. The Japanese companies expressed a high level of interest in cooperating with the park's technology and products, and opportunities for further discussions ensued.

Hsinchu Science Park owes its strength to the world-famous semiconductor industry that built a strong clustering effect, driving manufacturers to cross-discipline development of high-end medical devices like minimally invasive materials, smart assistive devices, image processing, and smart diagnostics. It also attracted outstanding domestic and foreign medical device manufacturers to move into the park. Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park, which is part of Hsinchu Science Park, is dedicated to the research and development of the most advanced and innovative medical devices, and is also the largest medical industry cluster in Taiwan. The outstanding manufacturers that participated in this conference, with products that include iNAP Sleep (a negative pressure sleep apnea treatment device by Somnics), RedEye Visible Spectrophotometer For Clinical Use (an optical hemoglobin sensor by RedEye), InsightEyes EGD System (a magnetically controlled capsule endoscope for the upper digestive tract by Insight Medical Solutions), a handheld X-ray device (Energy Resources International), a multi-parameter patient monitor (BROADSIMS), and a light sensing biomarker analyzer (Instant NanoBiosensors), combined medical products with ICT, fully demonstrating the innovation and R&D capabilities of manufacturers of Hsinchu Science Park.

Chiu-Feng Lin, President of MIRDC, said that Japan has always been an important partner of Taiwan’s industries. With active economic exchanges, Japan is one of Taiwan’s top three import and export countries of medical devices. The pandemic has made it impossible to physically meet with companies in Japan this year. However, to allow manufacturers to continue to develop the global market and win business opportunities, MIRDC has held this Taiwan-Japan Medical Device Remote Procurement Conference, in addition to taking photos of the products and promoting them online. The Japanese companies that participated also show high expectations for cooperating with manufacturers of Hsinchu Science Park. This conference has promoted future cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in all aspects, creating a win-win situation for both countries.
