Audited by TÜV Rheinland, MIRDC’s MTIC is the Most Comprehensive GWO-certified Training Institute

Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) was entrusted by the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, to establish the Marine Technology Innovation Center (MTIC). The MTIC is set to become Asia’s first training facility equipped with comprehensive and diverse offshore wind energy courses. Audited and authorized by TÜV Rheinland Taiwan on January 11, 2021, the MTIC is now officially a GWO Certified Training Provider that will soon offer basic and advanced GWO-accredited courses to the wind energy industry in Taiwan and Asia. On March 10, 2021, a representative from TÜV Rheinland issued a GWO certificate to MIRDC at the opening ceremony of Wind Energy Asia 2021.

Dr. Chiu-feng Lin, President of MIRDC stated that “the MTIC now offers a number of offshore wind energy courses, which will facilitate Taiwan in meeting its energy transformation goal of having 20% of renewables in its energy portfolio by 2025. Beginning in January 2021, personnel training for domestic and foreign businesses has kicked off. After completing training, this personnel will then join Taiwan’s booming wind energy industry. Becoming a GWO Certified Training Provider under TÜV Rheinland indicates that MIRDC can now offer more diverse GWO certified courses, which will effectively accelerate domestic industry talent cultivation.” The MTIC currently offers certification courses such as Basic Safety Training (BST), Basic Technical Training (BTT), Emergency First Aid (EFA), Advanced Rescue Training (ART), and Slinger Signaller (SLS). MIRDC has kept abreast of the government’s agenda of promoting offshore wind energy by continuously introducing relevant training equipment used for advanced, professional, or customized training courses, with the aspiration of becoming a cradle for offshore wind farm talent cultivation and certification in Taiwan and Asia.

TÜV Rheinland is a GWO-accredited certification body. To offer GWO certification courses, the MTIC’s management systems, equipment and hardware, trainers, and training courses must all comply with GWO standards. James Liu, TÜV Rheinland Taiwan General Manager, recalled that in response to travel restrictions in 2020, TÜV Rheinland leveraged its local teams, combined with GWO resources, to aid the MTIC in complying with new regulations. Currently, the MTIC offers 15 professional courses, making it the most versatile GWO-accredited training center in Asia.
TÜV Rheinland plays an active role in government-led green industry promotion by introducing its resources to elevate the competitive edge of local businesses and keeping them up to date with international trends. The MTIC provides comprehensive training courses and a bilingual environment. In addition to satisfying the rapidly increasing demand for wind energy talent in Taiwan, the MTIC also serves wind energy companies seeking to enter Asia by providing globalized talent.
