MIRDC and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Join Hands to Train Offshore Wind Talents

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and MIRDC issued a joint press release on January 6, 2021. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will commission MIRDC to plan the advanced and customized courses for the construction, operations and maintenance professionals required by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's offshore wind farm in Taiwan and will sign a letter of intent for course customization collaboration at the Kaohsiung Maritime Technology Innovation Center (MTIC) on January 11, 2021.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy commissioned MIRDC to implement three sets of offshore wind professional training courses for internal training. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will send personnel to Taiwan to train and certify MIRDC trainers and review the training regularly. Students who will attend the professional courses in the future include operations, maintenance, and construction technicians, clients, and contractors of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. This will be the first time that Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has commissioned an external institute in Asia to implement Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's customized professional courses, which will further promote the transfer of Taiwan's offshore wind talent and technologies. This indicates that MIRDC is not only competitive in the market, but also provides world class professional training. This collaboration will also re-enhance Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's long-term commitment to cultivate Taiwan's offshore wind energy market. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's training equipment and trainers will be ready in January 2021 so that the 70 technicians are estimated to receive the training in Taiwan.

MIRDC was entrusted by the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs to prepare and operate the Maritime Technology Innovation Center in Xingda Harbor. The Marine Technology Talent Competence Division created various GWO offshore wind energy training courses, including basic safety and technical training, advanced rescue and enhanced first aid training, slinger and banksman training, and blade repair. These courses are recognized by domestic and foreign manufacturers, who have selected personnel to attend the training. They have successively joined the booming wind energy industry once they completed the training. As the government develops offshore wind energy, MIRDC will continue to introduce corresponding training equipment to provide advanced and professional courses, hoping to become the cradle of offshore wind energy talent training and certification in Taiwan and the Asia Pacific region.

This close collaboration indicates that target clients recognize MIRDC's training capabilities, and MIRDC's facilities and trainer certification satisfy Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's customized training requirements. This also shows Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's determination to invest in Taiwan's offshore wind energy market for the long term. MIRDC's future training facilities will not only satisfy the talent needs of Taiwan's wind energy industry, but also provide Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, or other wind energy companies that wish to gain a foothold in Taiwan for the Asia-Pacific region, with global talent to enter the market.
