New Job Opening for Green-Collar Workers MIRDC Launches the Industry Pioneer Pilot Project

The Taiwanese government is proactively promoting offshore wind energy, with Phase 2 of its renewable energy power generation project now under way and in full swing. The urgent demand for “green-collar” technical workers has led to major companies offering attractive jobs and job salaries to fill the industrial manpower gap. Additionally, in Phase 2 of its Industry Pioneer Pilot Project, the Ministry of Labor increased the subsidy for course fees to 100% (for a maximum of NT$100,000). Please visit the official website of the Ministry of Labor’s Industry Pioneer Pilot Project for more information.

The rapid growth of offshore wind energy in Taiwan has driven the demand for manpower in the offshore wind energy industrial chain. To encourage unemployed young people to enter the emerging industry of offshore wind energy, the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) implemented the aforementioned Industry Pioneer Pilot Project and launched the “Offshore Wind Energy and Maritime Engineering Employment Counselling Course”. The course, divided into four phases and will be held in the first half of 2021, teaches job seekers about relevant professional knowledge and technical ability, accelerating the development of talented workers in Taiwan’s offshore wind energy industry. Eligible people for the subsidy, are young Taiwanese unemployed people aged 18 to 29, at the time that they study in this course. Registration for the course begins in early October 2020, and Phase 1 of the course will start on January 21, 2021. Each phase of the course totals 18 days long (144 hours) and includes such as an introduction to offshore wind energy and marine engineering, and offshore wind energy industry-related Chinese and English terminology. The course is taught by professional lecturers including those from the Wenzao Ursuline University of Language. Moreover, students studying in this course will have exclusive access to the followings: five modules of internationally certified Basic Safety Training (BST) offered by the Global Wind Organization (GWO), and offshore wind energy-related seminars hosted by professional experts, integrating the course with actual practice. Furthermore, employment matchmaking services are provided to allow students to submit their resumes and be interviewed by companies directly, making NT$1 million annual salary as a green-collar worker a dream come true!

The Kaohsiung Marine Technology Industrial Innovation Zone, located in the Xingda Harbor, will also open at the end of this year, making the first group of students who successfully register with the Industry Pioneer Pilot Project the first-ever students to use this newly built location. The students will also be able to use GWO certified international professional equipment and be taught by professional teachers who have passed international offshore wind training agency-issued MT certification, enabling the students to receive international quality training. It’s all arranged in Taiwan. Are you up for it?
