In recent years, more and more metal biomaterials use magnesium and magnesium alloys. Magnesium is a kind of light metal, non-toxic with biocompatibility and biodegradability. Magnesium can not only stimulate the activity of bone cells, but also the degraded magnesium ions can be completely dissolved in urine through metabolism. It is quite suitable for artificial implants and is regarded as the third generation of biomedical materials to replaces stainless steel and titanium alloys such current clinical use; however, the use of biomedical magnesium alloy materials is still limited due to poor corrosion resistance.

With the support of the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), MIRDC has developed biomedical magnesium alloys with biosafety, high strength and toughness, corrosion resistance and uniform controllable degradation. Among them, "Disposable Clip Applier of Controlling the Degradation Rate Technology of Medical Magnesium Alloys" combined with minimally invasive devices to develop magnesium alloy-related medical device. This is the world's first hemostatic clip that can degrade magnesium alloy in the body. There is no need to be removed after surgery, which can reduce secondary damage to the tissue. The controllable degradation rate of magnesium alloys has been confirmed through animal experiments and biocompatibility tests. It is currently a potential application in the international medical market and was previously recognized by the Red Dot Design Award.

EPOCH Energy Technology Corp has invested NT$ 10 million in subsequent production, certification and manufacturing.
