The surge in global demand for micro-products has stimulated the rapid development of technical capability in the field of micro components. Currently, the industry faces the challenge of inefficiency of the progressive die production line and is in urgent need of new technical breakthroughs. The key to success in this competitive market lies in high production yield and stable mass production. To help manufacturers transform and upgrade their processes, create a niche in overseas markets, and attract orders from foreign customers enable the manufactures strengthen their foothold in the micro-product market and demonstrate their competitiveness.
MIRDC has proposed a production line that uses the self-developed micro-forming system for strip stamping which may not only reduce costs and replace imports, but also integrate the technical capabilities of domestic upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors (TPI, Fair Oaks, APHA, and OLYMPIC). By placing a progressive die and transfer die in the same mold and combining it with a press system, MIRDC has developed a stamping system that is long-lived, durable, easy to repair, and enables high-speed production and mass production. Compared with the traditional serial stamping line, the developed stamping system can effectively increase the production speed by 2.5 times and save 10% of material cost, which reaches the technical levels of Japan and Germany.
According to Dr. Chorng-Tyan Lin, the director of MIRDC, the system can be widely used for developing core components of a motor (including bearing retainers, sealing plates, and ferrite core molds), automotive weld nuts, micro cooling fans, yokes for CD/DVD pick-up heads, and so on. In 2019, the MIRDC assisted a professional bearing manufacturer in Taiwan in setting up a production line, which in turn improved its process capability and increased the ratio of self-made parts. Dr. Chiu-Feng Lin, President of MIRDC, stated that micro-manufacturing is a manufacturing system designed for the development of small and light products and involves requirements for process technology, equipment, molds, and peripheral systems. With the technologies to integrate multiple systems, MIRDC is capable of assisting manufacturers in setting up a production line that uses the micro-forming system for strip stamping according to specific customer needs, so as to create new opportunities with the micro manufacturing industry by providing optimal solutions and innovative service and operating models.
