Southern Taiwan Science Park's medical device accelerator, TransMedx, held the achievements presentation and global venture capital matchmaking sessions at the iBiomed Flagship Hall in STSP Kaohsiung on March 30, 2020, inviting many global venture capitalists including Taiwania Capital, Integral Group, A2+ Biotech Consulting, Taiwan Venture Capital Association, NASME, and companies located in Southern Taiwan Science Park. During the sessions, investment letters of intent were signed with Biomdcare, Mobiosense, Cloudmed, and Cyper S to jointly create the STSP smart biomed innovation ecosystem.
Dr. Chiu-Feng Lin, President of MIRDC, said that in order to assist STSP in building a comprehensive smart biomed ecosystem, MIRDC has established TransMedx together with private venture company TransPacific Venture Partners. TransMedx is the only accelerator in Taiwan that focuses on the field of medical devices. After launching in August 2019, startups from Medtech were recruited to join TransMedx. Among them, Biomdcare, Mobiosense, Cloudmed, and Cyper S stood out among the competition between 17 startups in Taiwan. Their core technologies include smart healthcare and medical devices related AI, big data, and voice recognition, fully demonstrating the advantages that combine the two major industries of STSP, ICT and BIO.
The teams that were mentored are all early-stage startups that are less than 5 years old. In the past 6 months, they were provided with one-on-one, customized, and intensive training to help them understand clinical requirements, market potential, business models, and potential strategic partners to build a bridge between investors and startups, facilitating the connection between Taiwan's Medtech startups and enterprises, and venture capital, to showcase the results of each stage to attract seed funding or investors, so that outstanding startups can connect globally. MIRDC has been carrying out the Southern Taiwan Biotechnology and Medical Device Industry Cluster Development Promotion Project since 2009. It's been 10 years now. In addition to supporting the unique medical devices industry and combining emerging technologies, MIRDC will help the Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau to introduce medical device startups in the future to inject new capability and drive the development of STSP's Smart Biotech Medical Cluster.
