Advanced manufacturing navigates, the MIRDC partners with the aerospace industry

With the guidance of the Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA, the International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing Technology in Metal Industries - An Examination of the Development of Aerospace Parts/Components Manufacturing Technologies organized by the MIRDC and was held at the Innovation Value-added Center of Traditional Industry, MOEA on October 7, 2019 with great success. With cross-country links to large-scale R&D institutes such as Georgia Tech, GE, Fraunhofer, and Tohoku University, partnerships with Taiwan’s aerospace leaders, Aviation Industry Development Company (AIDC) and Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corp., and co-organization with the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association, the Chinese National Federation of Industries, the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, and the Taiwan Aerospace Industry Association, the conference invited experts from Taiwan's aerospace components and metal processing industries to exchange and share the latest knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies around the world, explore how the metal industries can take the lead in the international market, and create opportunities in advance to move towards high-end international markets.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, D. Chih-lung Lin, Vice President of the MIRDC, mentioned that aerospace components have always been an important representative of the supply chain in the high-end metal processing market, and Taiwan currently ranks sixth in the aerospace manufacturing attractiveness rankings, and is an important member of the international aviation industry supply chain. With the growth in demand for high-performance new aircraft engines and fleets, orders for aerospace processing in Asia may focus on Taiwan. Moreover, the conference also introduced the advanced manufacturing technology, metal additive manufacturing technology, and smart manufacturing that the MIRDC has been committed to developing high-temperature metal components in recent years, demonstrated the research capabilities of the institution, and invited Mr. Patrick Wang of GE expert, Professor Steven Liang of Georgia Tech, Mr. Wolfgang Zorn of Fraunhofer expert, and Professor Chiba Yoshihiko of Tohoku University, who gave special lectures on the theme of aerospace manufacturing trends, advanced manufacturing material challenges, smart manufacturing quality assurance, and key EBM additive manufacturing technologies, relying on technical links important global institutions to realize industrial applications.

Dr. Chiu-Feng Lin, the President of MIRDC, brought the conference to a perfect end explaining that advanced manufacturing technology must combine the resources and capabilities of the industry, the government, academia, and the research institutions and combine manufacturing domain knowledge with AI technology to transform factories into smart manufacturing, which is the vision and goal of Taiwan's manufacturing industry in the next stage. The conference hopes to drive the upgrading of the manufacturing technology for the aerospace industry and improve the capability of Taiwan’s manufacturers to obtain international orders to inspire the development of technology and integrated solutions for the future, and to together create the next blue ocean market in Taiwan.
