International Business Matching of SGRE and SOC together to build new business opportunities

An International Cooperation & Business Matching of Offshore Wind Turbine Industry and SOC Submarine Cable EPCI" was held by the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre on July 5th, invited SIEMENS Gamesa Renewable Energy, (SGRE) and its global supply chain manufacturers to come to Taiwan to assist the domestic manufacturers to step into offshore wind energy market in Taiwan and the Asia Pacific region. Seaway Offshore Cables (SOC) was also invited to share the company's experiences in the field of submarine cable contracting and localization strategy. It attracted more than 100 domestic and foreign buyers to promote cooperation opportunities.

Dr. Chiu-Feng Lin, the President of Metal Industries Research& Development Centre (MIRDC), who is also known as the President of Taiwan Wind Industry Association (TWIA), stated that Taiwan government has proactively promoted the development of the offshore wind energy industry of the nation, and established cooperation opportunities between the both demand and supply sides through policies and implementation plans. It is expected to achieve the goal of setting 5.7 GW offshore wind power in Taiwan in 2025. Ever since 2018 the domestic SWancor Green Energy & Environment Protection & Safety has become the first Asian region supplier to provide SGRE offshore wind turbine blades. Today Formosa Plastic Corporation signed a memorandum of cooperation with SGRE on offshore wind turbine blade carbon fiber, which will drive the development of materials in the offshore wind energy industry. In the future MIRDC will also continue to assist the government in promoting the localization of offshore wind turbine components, and through the opportunity to develop offshore wind energy in Taiwan, to assist domestic industries to quickly enter the international supply chain.

In the keynote speech at the day, Mr. Mikkle Einslow, the Head of Localization of SIEMENS Gamesa Renewable Energy introduced the process of establishing the offshore supply chain of offshore wind turbines in Taiwan and the planning and future business opportunities of the aircraft assembly plant in Taiwan in 2021; CS Wind Group’s Taiwan business partner, the representative of Chin Fong Machine Industrial Company Limited, Mr. Ho-Yuan Fu focused on the business model of Taiwan-Korea cooperation offshore wind turbine towers and the challenges in the tower manufacturing process; Mr. Adrian Willetts, the Chief Sales Officer of AH Industries, and Mr. Cheng-Chih Tsai of Yeong Guan Group together shared how foreign companies establish trust relationships with local companies and become close-knit supply chain partners; and Mr. Andre Andreasen, Seaway Offshore Cables Liaison & Interface Manager introduced local supply chain material business opportunities for offshore wind power submarine cable laying, and qualification requirements for the future recruiters.

The scene of the event was quite actively on the day, and many of the guests discussed the possibility of future cooperation, especially the technical capabilities and development direction needed for the local industry to introduce the offshore wind energy industry supply chain. The International Cooperation & Business Matching of Offshore Wind Turbine Industry effectively has brought the industry partners of offshore wind energy together, and shared the process, challenges and future business opportunities of localized cooperation, and strengthened the domestic industries to enhance the competitiveness of offshore wind energy market to create a win-win situation for the future.
