Elite professionals form MIRDC’s brand image and talented people determine MIRDC’s development and future. The MIRDC 2018 Elite Awards ceremony was held on May 20, 2019. Entering its sixth year, the Elite Award includes a total of four team awards and five individual awards. During the ceremony, outstanding teams and individuals were given awards in technology development, industry guidance, and service categories. Two head judges, Dr. Tyzz-Jiun Duh, the former vice-premier and Mr. Yu-Sung Chen, honorary adviser of MIRDC gave speeches and praised the year’s winners and how they demonstrated that MIRDC is a people-oriented development center.
Technical contents covered by the Elite Awards this year include the development of Asia’s first hand-held intraoral scanning system. Not only is the scanning time of this system comparable to that of international brands, but it is also the world’s only image-base oral scanning system that does not require powder spraying to complete the oral modeling process. In addition, MIRDC built Taiwan’s only 3D printed casting sand mold laboratory. This laboratory helped develop domestically produced equipment and materials and assisted the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts to convert the painting Tamsui Landscape by Cheng-Po Chen into a 3D tactile aid for the visually impaired. The objective is to allow the visually impaired to admire the beauty of art and to fulfill the organization’s social responsibility. Additionally, the MIRDC team also developed a high-efficiency mold simulation and design technology, smart mold adjustment technology, and a 24/7 available quality online monitoring technology that has turned the fastener industry upside down. MIRDC has established demonstration sites to speed up industry upgrading and transformation into smart manufacturing. In industry services, MIRDC has broken through traditional marketing unitary method, and integrated digital platforms to improve the organization’s digital marketing/promotion mechanism comprehensiveness and capabilities. Multiple channels are used to introduce development results into industrial applications to drive the overall development of the industry.
The team that won last year’s Elite Awards worked hard to make improvements. As a result, the team represented MIRDC in competitions this year and achieved repeated success. For example, the “Innovative Regenerative Combustion System” and “League of Superb Shoe Cementing” won the 6th National Industrial Innovation Award granted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The “Intelligent 3D Visual Automation for Shoes Roughing and Cementing Equipment” won the Bronze in the Edison Awards, also known in the industry as the “Oscars of Innovation”. MIRDC is continuing to invest many talented professionals in technology development. These professionals are expected to work for the industry and produce more outstanding research results, as well as improve the international competitiveness of Taiwan industries.
