In order to proactively promote talent training, introduce resources for industry-academic exchanges, and establish a platform for cooperation between industry, academic and research sectors based on enterprise’s needs. On the 8th of October, Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) and I-Shou University signed the Letter of Intent (LOI) of strategic alliance to formally form the cooperative partners. This inking was signed by the representatives of both parties, MIRDC’s president Dr. Chiu-Feng Lin and I-Shou University’s president Dr. Roger C.Y. Chen to unfold a long-term cooperation mechanism between the two parties and provide a more complete support network for the integration of production resources in Southern Taiwan.
I-Shou University has cultivated professional talents to meet the needs of the industry since its establishment, and has been actively engaged in industry-academic cooperation with other enterprises, and so far, nearly 550 cooperative cases have been established. The University's goal is "Excellent Teaching, Distinctive Research, Quality Service, International Integration", and the future university direction will be focusing on medical and smart technology. In addition, its group is also involved in the steel industry which is closely related to MIRDC’s long-term focus on metal materials and processes, medical devices, high-value equipment, smart manufacturing, automation and other fields. In the future, the two parties will combine the previous research results with the key technologies of MIRDC and then submit them to the University in a trial production. This will not only train students to operate independently, but also strengthen academic achievements into industrial applications and enhance the real benefits of technology research and development.
Being cooperative partners MIRDC and I-Shou University have cooperated in” Preparation Level Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) Efficient Separation and Purification Equipment”. MIRDC applied “Supercritical Fluid Equipment Technology” to expand I-Shou’s original equipment in order to complete the test of high-pressure multi-directional switching valve and testing of prototypes as well as complement of the technical gap and the technology transfer of supercritical fluid equipment professional industries. In addition, I-Shou University's pharmaceutical regulation, animal experiments, toxicity testing, and other certification tests, as well as the “Echo-Assisted Microcarrier Process Development” developed by National Chung Cheng University and Cheng Shiu University's emulsification process and ultrasonic module analysis design has won many awards can be described as a model of strategic alliances. MIRDC has established ultrasonic microdroplet spray forming module and emulsified volatilization microcarrier forming technology, and produced high uniformity microcarriers, which can be used for the manufacture of other high value microspheres, such as photoelectric materials, inks and coatings, cosmetics, sound insulation materials, etc.
Dr. Chiu Feng Lin, the president of MIRDC stated that the cooperation between MIRDC and I-Shou University has been pleasant experience as this signing is a new start point to the future collaboration in developing new products and new technologies. In addition, industry-academic cooperation and international academic exchanges are also projects that are highly valued by the both parties. Through cross-disciplinary and cross-unit resources, better services definitely can be provided to the industry.
