The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

MIRDC collaborated with National Sun Yat-Sen University to enhance the capabilities for marine

In view of the urgent demand for offshore wind energy talents, it is necessary to strengthen the cooperation relationship between industrial, academic, and research sectors and promote the industrialization of marine technology research and implementation. On November 26th, 2019, the chairman of MIRDC Dr. Ren-Yi Lin and the president of National Sun Yat-Sen University, Professor Ying-Yao Cheng signed a memorandum of cooperation. In the future, the two parties will work together to nurture the domestic marine science and technology industry. The first priority is to train domestic talents of offshore wind energy, marine science and technology by exchanging practical and academic experiences with each other.

As far as the training is concerned, MIRDC assisted the Ministry of Economic Affairs in promoting the” Marine Technology Innovation Center”, which built international first-class offshore wind farm talent training facilities and introduce professional training courses. “The University is of Science school which has been committed to promoting research capabilities in marine science, marine engineering and technology, marine natural materials and biotechnology” stated by president Cheng. In the future, MIRDC will link the Department of Marine Environment and Engineering, Marine Environment Resources Institute of Undersea Technology, Biological Sciences, and Marine Biotechnology and Resources and so on of the University. Together the parties will jointly plan training courses, industrial internship mechanisms and talent matching platforms, not only improving graduate employment opportunities, but also solving domestic dislocation offshore wind energy and the demand for marine science and technology talents.

In terms of marine technology, MIRDC assisted the Ministry of Economic Affairs in establishing underwater science and technology, marine biological resources-related laboratories in the Center. In the future, by virtue of its deep underwater detection instrument development technology and experience, it will join the "Underwater Vehicle R & D Alliance" for jointly developing underwater vehicle. In addition, the National Sun Yat-Sen University’s AI shrimp breeding technology will also be introduced to the fish farms near Hsing-Ta Harbor to increase the value of local aquaculture. Dr. Lin, MIRDC chairman stated that learning and practice should be implemented as well as the importance of learning and research effects must be emphasized, and Taiwan's marine scientific research and engineering construction has greatly helped. Through the signing of this cooperation memorandum, the development issues such as marine energy resources, including "smart farming", "underwater vehicle", "blue energy", etc. will be focused.
