The 14th Asia-Pacific Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeon of Asia (ELSA-2019) was held on 21-23 November in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is the largest and most historic medical association for endoscopic surgery in Asia. Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) was commissioned by Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to execute the Integration and Appreciation of Advantage and Niche Medical Device – International Promotion of Advantage and Niche Medical Device Industry. MIRDC selected 11 domestic microsurgery device manufacturers to attend this conference in order to market the medical device research and development capabilities of Taiwan.
In this event, MIRDC collaborated with Dr. I-Shu Chen, Chief Director of Taiwan Association for Endoscopic Surgery (TAES), and the Asian Institute of TeleSurgery (IRCAD Taiwan) of Showchwan Healthcare systems and encouraged Taiwanese doctors to present their experiences of using domestic medical devices in the conference. The clinical superiority of Taiwan would promote and improve the clinical reputation of the domestic microsurgery industry. In addition, MIRDC also joined the Changhua Christian Hospital in visiting McCormick Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand to expand international markets. MIRDC also successfully facilitated the signing of MOU between MedicalTek and Chula Soft Cadaver Surgical Training Center which is expected to develop more business opportunities for both.
In combination with the superior MIT products series, the Lunch Symposium new product launch event was held during the conference to promote the following companies and their products: LAGIS (microsurgery devices), BEAMED Instruments (laparoscopy devices), CUUMED (medical catheters), MedicalTek (2D-3D medical imaging software), HIWIN (robotic endoscope holder and accessories), Taikebio (fibrillar atelocollagen sheet), UNIK (sutures), TWSC (clip applier/endoscopy devices), Amed (HeraDerm wound dressing), Adronic (endoscopy imaging), and Miis (Horus scope – endoscope set). This event comprehensively demonstrated the technical capabilities of the medical device industry of Taiwan.
Dr. Chiu-Feng Lin, President of MIRDC indicated that MIRDC has been involved in the medical device industry for over a decade during which the focus of the industry shifted through dental implant manufacturing, surgical device, preoperative preparation, surgical navigation, etc. and is gradually evolved to intelligent digital dental medicine. MIRDC has always been the best partner of domestic companies helping them in technology upgrade and transformation. MIRDC will further speed up product commercialization through industry collaboration and advocate domestic technology in oversea markets in order to promote the medical device industry of Taiwan to the global market.
