The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

MIRDC built the intelligent area to win MOI’s Excellent Intelligent Building Award

The Innovation Value-added Center of Traditional Industry, MOEA, inaugurated on March 20, 2018, is a demonstration field set up by the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) in Nanzi, Kaohsiung to help companies facilitate technical innovation and add value the products. Designed by MAYU architects+, the Center features an innovation building for traditional industries which mainly consists of study rooms, offices, and conference facilities, as well as three smart factories and a site for future development. This smart green building is developed by incorporating current trends into the concept of green buildings and introducing intelligent control and management technologies while striving to meet the indicators for diamond-level green buildings.

The design of the entire zone adopts green building techniques, intelligent systems, and a lot of eco-friendly building materials such as Low-E glass and aqua-bricks. Luxometer has been installed beside windows. When the illumination is lower than 550 lux, the system will automatically control the lighting to provide an adequate amount of light. In addition, intelligent space management has been introduced, including such functions as intelligent navigation, intelligent reception, and intelligent conferencing.

The visitor access system was particularly praised by committee members for its innovative approach. The visitors must make an appointment in advance, and the system will provide a QR code to each visitor while notifying the individuals that will visit the Center. The system may also be used in combination with the registration system for conferences or training programs. After applicants register on the official website, the system will automatically send a QR code, allowing applicants to enter or exit the venue by scanning the QR code on their documents or cell phones, which is very convenient. In addition to integrating the elements such as information, facilities, management and obtaining both diamond-level smart building and green building marks, the Center was favored by all the judges in the first Excellent Intelligent Building Awards hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and won the Excellent Intelligent Building Award and Excellent Intelligent Building Contribution Award at the same time.

Dr. Ren-yi Lin, Chairman of MIRDC indicated that technologies have been proactively adopted in the Center since its establishment. The four strategies, “to add value to materials” “to add value to process”, “to add value to products”, and “to add value to foundations laying”, are also in place to incorporate key technologies into the development, prototyping, or application of innovative products. Besides, integrated services platforms have been built, such as the Additive Manufacturing Center, CAE Cloud Innovation and Service Center, Smart Metal Manufacturing Center, and Prototyping Center. In the future, MIRDC will continue to provide its services to the industry, academia, and research institutions and create substantial benefits.
