New Southbound Policy takes off MIRDC cooperates with Vietnam to jointly promote machinery industry

The MIRDC signed an MOU of machinery industry cooperation with HCMC Association of Mechanical - Electrical Enterprise (HAMEE) of the Ho Chi Minh City on October 15, 2018. Under witnessing of industrial, government, and research officials from both nations, Dr. Ren-yi Lin, Chairman of MIRDC signed the memorandum with the HAMEE representative. In the future both parties will work together in the electric mechanical fields and combine efforts in the training of industry talents and exchange research development technologies.

The Executive Yuan proposed the “New Southbound Policy Promotion Plan” in September 2016 with 4 dimensions of planning: “Economic and Trade Collaboration”, “People-to-people exchanges”, “Resource sharing”, and “Regional connectivity”. Taiwan is the 4th largest source of foreign investment in Vietnam. Over 80% investment focuses on manufacturing and production industry. In 2017, the category of electrical machinery and equipment and components were listed as the most trade items with Vietnam. Export took up 15% with the amount approachingNTD4 billion. Thus the electrical mechanical industry forms one of the best performing categories between two nations. We hope to create a mutually beneficial type of partnership and establish a consensus of “economic community”.

HAMEE, the Ho Chi Minh City electrical mechanical industry organization, is in charge of promoting the development of the electric mechanic industry and technological research and local economic development. Dr. Lin, chairman of MIRDC, indicated that the centre has long been equipped with basic R&D capabilities of mechanical and electric fields. In recent years the centre has helped manufacturers transform toward a high value, and automation. Based on this niche, we hope that this signing of the MOU can strengthen bilateral ties and talent exchanges. We will mainly exchange the latest industrial development and training of professionals. The technical R &D will focus on high value added metals and relevant fields. In addition, the cooperation will center on recommendations and solutions for industrial problems in two nations to increase cooperation between Taiwan and Vietnam.
