To assist domestic home appliance manufacturers in acquiring more foreign product certification and accessing international markets, the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) proactively expands its cooperation with Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA). Under the guidance and witness of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, both parties inked the “MOU on Cooperation for Home Appliance Product Certification” in Tokyo on October 13, 2016. Signed by MIRDC Chairman Ren-yi Lin and JQA Chairman Noriaki Kobayashi, the memorandum sets up exchanges and cooperation between the two organizations in certification services in examining home appliance products, testing equipment, lab managements, technical consulting and personnel training.
On the day of the event, dignitaries, including IDB Deputy Director-general Hsiao Chen-jung, Taiwan Electric and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association Deputy Secretary-general Hsu Hsing and 40 representatives from smart home appliance makers such as Sanlux, Tatung, and Hosun witnessed the ceremony, with lively exchanges among industry, government, academia and research institutes. Hopefully, the collaboration with JQA on services will help Taiwan expand its areas for international collaboration, and help introduce a diversity of testing and certification services, thereby assisting Taiwan in realizing its goal of export certification for local home appliances, and providing Taiwanese companies with effective services with credibility.
In the future, in addition to the strengthened collaboration between MIRDC and JQA, MIRDC also seeks to assure the safety of home appliances for citizens while at the same time offering better quality comprehensive service solutions to Taiwanese and Japanese enterprises, thereby promoting the entry into niche markets. Both sides reached an agreement to work hand-in-hand on a common vision and goals, which, in turn, will assist Taiwan with the transition and upgrading of its home appliance industry and the realization of expanding shares in Asian Pacific markets.
