Another new milestone has been achieved in the cooperation between Taiwan and Japan! MIRDC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese company Syntec Corporation and Nitinol Innovative Technology Corporation on October 19th. The three parties’ representatives include MIRDC Chairman Ren-yi Lin, Syntec President Akatsu Kazumi, and Nitinol Corporation President Shu Gen Tsai. The alliance formed between Taiwanese and Japanese Nitinol enterprises helps to connect the nitinol markets of the two countries. In the future, the three entities will be able to complement each other in technological advantages and join hands in expanding the application markets of both sides, as well as utilizing the geographic advantages of the two countries in securing the business opportunities of Asian Nitinol markets.
Ren-Yi Lin, chairman of MIRDC noted that the Centre continues its proactive search for opportunities to link up with the international communities through outstanding technology research and development. This collaboration with Syntec serves as a model for partnership between Taiwanese and Japanese enterprises. Due to its properties, such as shape memory, super-elasticity, fatigue resistance and bio-compatibility, Nitinol is currently utilized in fields spanning aeronautics/astronautics, daily applications, and medical devices. In light of the quickly growing markets for Nitinol applications, MIRDC, with the support from the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2013, imported the production system facilities and technologies employed by American Nitinol benchmark factories to construct Taiwan’s first experimental production line demonstration, thereby enabling local research and the development of domestic Nitinol materials. It also maintains the comprehensive energy to carry out projects from Nitinol material design to product commercialization.
Syntec Corporation is located in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture. The Company is a longtime expert in surface treatment of medical device, expanding into value-added and applications of precious metals such as nickel and titanium. Its primary products include Nitinol fixation wires, wire materials for orthodontics, and surface treatment of titanium alloy.
Nitinol Innovative Technology Corporation is the result of the industrialization effort of MIRDC. It is a startup located in Kaohsiung’s Lujhu District. Being a spinoff and founded by MIRDC, Nitinol Corporation possesses the key manufacturing technology used for the production of Nitinol materials. It is the first company in Taiwan with Nitinol production technology, and is able to offer the international community high quality Nitinol wire/pipe components, as well as the application of its knowhow to customized products in fields encompassing daily application, industry use, medical device, and other relevant products that help to ensure convenient lifestyle and safe, comfortable care for the public.
