Formation of the Productivity 4.0 Industry Cross-Field Service Team and the Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony MIRDC is Assisting with Industry Optimization and Transformation

To speed up the vertical integration of southern industries in the industrial chain and transformation towards horizontal digitization and intelligent added value, Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Productivity 4.0 Southern Regional Development Office organized the Formation of the Productivity 4.0 Industry Cross-Field Service Team and the Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony. This event officially took place on May 24th at MIRDC. This service team is composed of domestic research institutes, industrial associations, and academic consultants, and its aim is to help southern industries introduce lean management and promote intelligent manufacturing and services. The team is expected to promote improvements in industrial productivity and international competitiveness in the future, as well as the establishment of active exchanges, and the increasing mutually beneficial cooperation.

Taiwan ranks sixth in the Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index. Taiwan has the advantages of a free economic environment, abundant number of professionals, rapid product commercialization ability, high industry cluster efficiency, and close proximity to the world’s largest single market. According to statistics from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics, there will be a labor deficit of 1.96 million people by 2020, and the market will face severe lack of employment in the future. This problem will be especially evident in the manufacturing industry. In addition to insufficient labor force in the service industry, there is a serious labor aging problem that is causing an aging and insufficient labor force in the industry. The establishment of the Productivity 4.0 Industry Cross-Field Service Team is expected to use industry, academic, and research cross-field technology integration and application to drive the industry toward intelligent manufacturing and services. This is expected to breakthrough challenges posed by domestic/international markets, slow growth of per capita GDP, and insufficient labor force to Taiwan industries.

The establishment and signing event of Industry Cross-Field Service Team was hosted by the Chen, Chin-Ming, acting president of MIRDC, all gathered with some of R&D organizations, industries, universities to sign the memorandum for cooperation. In the future, technical fields will be divided into “intelligent machines/robots,” “cyber physical system”, “IOT,” “big data,” and “lean management” areas for professional division of labor and to improve industry production technology.
