The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

MIRDC Signs Contract of Technology Transfer With Allied Firms And Sets New Trend in Energy Saving

The “Regenerative Combustion Industry R&D and Application Alliance”, established by the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) , is expected to be in the spotlight this year. The meeting on alliance expansion and the signing ceremony for technology transfer were held at Linhai Industrial Park Service Centre on April 28, in which Mr. Lin Wen-Xin, the section manager from the Bureau of Energy was invited to oversee the events.

Under the witness of officials from the Bureau of Energy, the Industrial Development Bureau and other members of the alliance, Jhong-Cheng Industrial Co. Ltd. and Whirlho Machine Co. Ltd. both signed the contract of technology transfer with MIRDC. As a provider for the energy-saving service, Jhong-Cheng Industrial Co. Ltd. cooperates with MIRDC in the technology transfer to design and develop reheating furnaces and regenerative combustion equipment, in the hope to expand its business from steel plants to relevant metal manufacturing industries through producing furnaces such as muffle furnaces, oxidation furnaces, reheating furnaces and heat-treatment furnaces. On the other hand, Whirlho Machine Co. Ltd., as a maker of industrial furnaces, thanks to its cooperation with MIRDC and the acquirement of regenerative combustion system and furnace body integration, expects to build a shell sintering furnace based on regenerative combustion system with a servicing power below 300KW by introducing design theory of regenerative combustion and performance evaluation method of waste heat recovery energy-saving modules, in order to offer the precision casting industry an energy-saving alternative in daily operations. In addition, HCG, also known as Hocheng Corporation, has also signed a MOU with MIRDC and joins the alliance. Considering the high energy consumption required in the production of sanitary equipment, HCG also wishes to develop regenerative materials for all types of furnaces. The ultimate goal is to keep the world a cleaner place for the well-being of our future generations.

The major goals for MIRDC in this project are enabling the industries in Taiwan to effectively save energy and cut down carbon emissions as well as localizing the transferred technology. The Bureau of Energy commissioned MIRDC to initiate the “Project of Research on High Efficiency Regenerative Combustion System” and the “Project of Developing Innovative Separated Regenerative Combustion System”; both aim at the effective increase of the recycling rate of waste heat from combustion and the reduction of the size of regenerative combustion systems, so that local businesses who rely heavily on high-temperature manufacturing processes are better served, and the target of energy-saving performance in the industries is achieved. In the afternoon on the same day (April 28), a seminar on energy-saving was held, in which topics about the regenerative combustion systems, intelligent energy-saving service based on cooling systems and energy-saving improvements based on the compressed air systems were discussed.
