MIRDC’s Dental Implant Guide Technology Recognized by the Good Design Award

The award presentation for the Japan Good Design Award was held in the evening of November 4th. In 2015, MIRDC’s dental implant guide won the technology category and became the focus of the award ceremony.
As the Japan Good Design Award announced the 2015 award list, MIRDC’s dental implant guide stood out from over 3600 contesting products with its applicability and outstanding exterior design. Good Design’s judging committee members indicated that MIRDC’s dental implant guide allows dentists to use a template to conduct implant surgery based on CT scan data. This implant guide shortens the time required for the procedure and reduces risks to patients. As such, it is a product designed for both dentists and patients.
Winning the Japanese award allowed the hard work of the design team to shine overseas. Furthermore, the award presentation for this item gained significant attention from participants regarding the technology’s innovation and applicability. MIRDC indicated that their outstanding performance at the Good Design Award is the result of the center’s insistence on using technological development to drive industrial development, which is a continuation of science & technology projects supported by the Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA. This research developed the dental implant guide, which provides accurate and fast dental implant design that reduces dental implant patients’ medical expense. In the future, the Centre will seek technology transfer and patent licensing opportunities to increase the competitive strength of Taiwan industries and create a blue ocean market.
Compared to existing dental implant treatment, the dental implant guide can reduce patients’ medical costs by 60% and shorten dental implant surgery time by 80%; thus, providing a win-win solution for both dentists and patients. Usually, dental implant surgery results in significant wounds and recovery time for patients. Surgery can also result in medical treatment risks. This new dental implant guide can be used on patients with different types of missing teeth. By utilizing dental implant guide that fits closely to the location of the missing teeth and CT scan surgery solutions, the dental implant position can be accurately defined. Dental implant guide holes can guide dentists during dental implant surgery so they can rapidly and safely achieve surgical objectives.
