In response to industry trends and needs, the first Taiwan motor industry oriented association was officially established on May 20th, 2015. The inaugural ceremony, held at the Tatung University music hall, was attended by guests from design, material, assembly, and application related industries. The establishment of association aims to create a commercial platform to advance the development of the Taiwan motor industry, promote expansion of industry commercial activities, and integrate the resources from government and enterprises, universities, and research sectors. This is expected to promote Taiwan motor related R&D at home and abroad and establish motors and related products made in Taiwan (MIT) as a symbol of high efficiency and quality.
Government officials from Department of Industrial Technology, Industrial Development Bureau, and Bureau of Energy of MOEA also attended the inauguration to witness the establishment of the Taiwan Motor Industry Association. During the ceremony the guests expressed their hope that the newly established association can drive growth in the motor and related industries. Under the leadership of the association, downstream industries can upgrade thereby, increase the economic value of motors and attract more professionals to join the industry. In addition, 15 directors and 5 supervisors were chosen during the inauguration. Chairman Lin Wei-Shan of Tatung Company was elected as the first chairman at the association’s founding.
The motor industry has been developed for a long time in Taiwan and is equipped with basic technical capabilities and manufacturing experiences as well as complete supply chain system. In 2013 the industry’s production value reached NTD 29.08 billion and the import value was NTD 14.93 billion. The industry has approximately 200 operators and the production value of peripheral industries affected by the motor industry is estimated at over NTD 500 billion, which means that the industry has played a vital role in Taiwan’s economy.
Currently, 53 companies have applied for association membership and members stand at 103, including corporations (China Steel Corporation, Tatung Company, Shihlin Electric), academic sector (National Cheng Kung University, National Taiwan University), nonprofit R&D organizations (MIRDC and Industrial Technology Research Institute) and individuals.
