The “Magnificence of Traditional Industries and Its Classical Future” Special Exhibit Organized by the MIRDC is Open and Displays Results of Innovative Development

MIRDC hosts a six day “Magnificence of Traditional Industries and Its Classical Future” exhibit starting January 8th. This exhibit is expected to help traditional industries enter the high value product market and demonstrate the development and innovative strength of the research institutes. Audio/video performances, lectures, and spatial atmosphere creation are used to renew visitors’ realization of traditional industries and allow them to experience traditional industries in the exhibition area. The exhibit also displays cooperative development invested by industries, academia, and research institutes in recent years, and the result of upgrades and transformation in traditional industries.

At the opening ceremony on the 8th, MIRDC president Dr. Fu, Ho-Chung stated that Taiwan traditional industries are resilient, and that this exhibit not only demonstrates the enhancement results of traditional industry core strengths, but can also results in additional development opportunities through integration of research strengths. Representatives from Yen Sun Technology Corp and M&R Nano Technology Co., Ltd expressed that the production value and employment number of Taiwan traditional industries account for approximately 60% of the total in Taiwan manufacturing industries. Thus, traditional industries play the key roles for maintaining economic development and domestic employment. The representatives also pointed out that MIRDC has implemented the Traditional Industry Added-Value Transformation Promotion Project, sponsored by the Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA, and integrated the capabilities of National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology and Alliance of Innovation in Traditional Industry to provide Taiwan manufacturers with a comprehensive and flexible technology guidance and assistance.

The implementation of the traditional industry project has facilitated main manufacturers in the industry chain to lead upstream, midstream, and downstream makers in forming value chain R&D alliances. The objective of these alliances is to work together in developing new products/materials and markets, gather technical capabilities from industrial, academic and research sectors, introduce technology development and integration in traditional industries, and achieve value creation. In the future, research institutes R&D capabilities and innovative methods will continue to be used (e.g., forming technology groups and trial manufacturing centers) to assist development in traditional industries. After the Traditional Industry Innovation and Value-added Center of MOEA is established in 2016, it will link Central Taiwan Science Park in Nantou, Chia-Yi Industrial Innovation and Research Center in Chiayi, and Southern Taiwan Innovation and Research Park in Tainan into one complete industry innovation corridor. This is expected to vitalize Taiwan traditional industries and help introduce these industries to the international supply chain.

Activities of Traditional industry week were being held at the MIRDC R&D t building from January 8th – 14th. This exhibit has collected the abundant results of various research investments by traditional industries. Each theme exhibit displayed actual items, using text, chart descriptions, and interaction to deliver innovative and close-to-life concepts. It was a great opportunity for everyone to experience technical innovations and their links to daily life, and join an in-depth time travel of traditional industries.
