MIRDC and NCKU Hospital, after three years of joint efforts, have successfully developed a magnetic-induction thermal ablation therapy that is safe and simple. The magnetic-induction thermal ablation needle, guided with ultrasonic scan, is inserted through skin to reach legion, where the needle is then heated up to 80-100℃ by the magnetic field generated through induction coils to kill the target cancer cells. This method is a safer alternative course of treatment for patients who are not suitable for general anesthesia or are in high-risk conditions like high blood-pressure and diabetic. Currently in its clinical trial period, this technology has potential applications for treating other diseases and MIDRC will strive to further develop it into a regular medical option.
