Deepen cross-strait industrial exchanges
Grand opening for cross-strait cooperation and exchange meeting of metal materials industry
Guided under the Department of Industrial Technology of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the “Cross-strait Cooperation and Exchange Meeting of Metal Materials Industry” was undertaken by Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC). The meeting was held April 24 & 25, 2012 in Kaohsiung Crowne Plaza and was co-organized by Taiwan Steel & Iron Industries Association and China Iron & Steel Association. Additionally the meeting is expected to expand the benefits for steel industry and to strengthen the depth of the exchange for cross-strait steel industry.
Mr. Chi-chuan Huang, Chairman of MIRDC address as the host pointed out: Since the ECFA was signed, the frequent cross-strait exchanges make more important to set up the normal cooperating platform for the cross-strait industry. MIRDC is regarded as Taiwan's largest metal applications and processing R & D institution. At this moment of frequent cross-strait exchanges, MIRDC has the duty to serve as a bridge for the cross-strait metal industry. In particular, the meeting gathered cross-strait steel mills with heavy-weight, high-level, high representative and wide- range. The China participants whose steel annual production reaches to half of whole annual output in China. The total revenue value is up to NTD 5 trillion that indicates the exchanges are so grand.
Dr. Jung-chiou Hwang, vice minister of Ministry of Economic Affairs, indicated that cross-strait exchange intends to combine the cross-strait advantages and to create great value. This bilateral exchange will not only increase the complimentary benefit for both parties, combination of cross-strait advantages but also creates the co-existent industrial chain in the future.
Except dialogue of scholars and heavyweights, both sides would sign Letter of Intent to set up a concrete cooperative and exchange channel, including Taiwan Steel & Iron Industries Association and China Iron & Steel Association as well as Metal Industries Research and Development Centre and China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group sign Letter of Intent separately.
