Dan Schechtman, the 2011 Nobel Prize Laureate for Chemistry who was on a speech tour in Taiwan on the topic of quasi-crystal, gave his only lecture in Kaohsiung at MIRDC on May 11, attracting large numbers of audiences from the industry and the academia alike. After the event MIRDC CEO expressed gratitude to Mr. Yang Chung-kuang, Chief Secretary of National Taipei University of Technology, for his assistance in arranging for this speech to be hosted by MIRDC, the only Taiwan R&D institute headquartered in Kaohsiung. The enthusiastic participation from the industries in South Taiwan also indicates the ongoing attention and importance attached to new technologies by the industry.
