To enhance competitiveness of the water ware industry, MIRDC implemented an Industrial Technology Development Project entitled, “Constructing Environment for Water-ware Industrial Cluster,” and expanded the testing capacity of MIRDC’s toilet and bathroom valve laboratory by adding testing items NSF-61, ASSE 1019, ASME A112.18.3 and WaterSense Showerheads, making it the only lab in Taiwan with such testing capabilities. |

On Dec. 21, 2011, MIRDC organized the Value-added Heightening International Forum for Metal Industry, an event participated by over 350 practitioners in metal industries, including maestro experts from Taiwan and Japan who were invited to advise on directions for value heightening of Taiwan’s metal industries. |

As part of the Bridge-building Project for Taiwan-Japan Industrial Cooperation under the Executive Yuan, MIRDC led 10 leading domestic hand-tool manufacturers to visit Miki City, Japan on an exchange program with local hardware and metal tools industries. This visit has resulted in the signing of 19 MOUs between Taiwanese and Japanese companies, thus marking the first step toward successful bridge-building for Taiwan-Japan industrial cooperation. |

On Sep. 23, 2011, MIRDC signed an agreement with NCKU Research Center for Energy Technology and Strategy, NCKU Hydraulics Laboratory and Taiwan Generations Corp on Industry-Academia Offshore Wind-energy Cooperation to use the latter’s Fuhai Windfarm as a cross-sector cooperation platform for enabling the concurrent development of academic research and industrial upgrade in offshore wind-energy. |

The metal processing laboratory cofounded by MIRDC and NCKU has evolved with the industry to see its R&D scope growing beyond the traditional boundary of metal processing. On 1 Aug. 2011, the Metal Processing Technology Center was renamed as the Metal Technology Research Center to aim for further expansion of applications of its core R&D capabilities into new realms while ridding itself of the old stereotypical image associated with metal processing. |
