2013 11 Light Metal Award, a cradle of industrial innovation talents by mobilizing industry and academia for R&D and innovative design of light metals, announces winners The 10th Light Metal Award, an annual event sponsored by MOEA Department of Industrial Development and organized by MIRDC since 2004, offers prizes in the students and adults categories to promote innovative design and development of light metal products in industry and academia, thereby expanding the scope of light metal applications, creating new applications for novel materials, and discovering and cultivating new talents in Taiwan for innovative design and manufacturing of light metal products.
2013 11 MIRDC’s surgical instrument technologies attracts European buyers Under MIRDC’s partnership with National Defense University and Eda Hospital on new anti-stick coating technologies for surgical instruments, the success story of a chromium carbide metallic ceramic coating for non-vacuum manufacturing processes has attracted European buyer CHIRANA, who recently visited MIRDC and is considering incorporating this new anti-stick coating technology for electrosurgical units into its new products for minimally invasive surgery.
2013 07 On July 8, 2013, the slim motor technology developed by MIRDC was officially announced a winner of the 2013 R&D 100 Awards. It features the slimmest and smallest (Φ12x2.5mm) button-type 3-phase BLDC motor to date in Asia, which was developed under the Project of Developing Critical Technologies for Metal Micro-components and Systems, sponsored by Department of Industrial Technologies of Ministry of Economic Affairs.
2013 07 On July 8, 2013, MIRDC’s R&D achievements in safety-warning and quality-testing systems for power Li-cells were recognised by Hong Kong Standard and Testing Center (STC) with the signing of a MOU on collaboration with MIRDC to enhance existing safety standards and technologies for Li-cells. This partnership aims to leverage the capabilities of MIRDC’s battery management technologies and the recognition that STC testing enjoys in China and Europe, and in the future is expected to develop traceability systems for the production and uses of batteries.
2013 07 MIRDC’s thin motor technology wins R&D 100 Awards The 2013 R&D 100 Awards in the USA has announced MIDRC a winner for its thin motor technology, which was also an iENA gold medalist. MIDRC, supported by MOEA Department of Industrial Technologies under the Project for Developing Micro Metal Components and System-critical Technologies, has successfully developed the thinnest-ever (Φ12x2.5mm) 3-phase DC brushless motor in Asia, offering 1.875 times output power with a mere 25% footprint compared to similar motors available on market. Currently, a total of 33 patents related to this motor are pending in Taiwan and the USA, to ensure comprehensive IPR protection for subsequent industrial applications.
2013 07 MIRDC develops coating for high-end endoscopic lenses, boosting technological upgrade of medical devices in Taiwan MIRDC, supported by MOEA Innovative Research Project, has successfully developed endoscopic lense coating that is stick-resistant to human tissue, thereby facilitating technology upgrade of medical devices in Taiwan. This coating features excellent hydrophobicity, enabling up to 110° waterdrop contact angle and offers over 99% translucent rate in visible light spectrum. With such outstanding functionalities, this coating technology has applied for patents in Taiwan and the USA, and its anti-stick effect has been validated by user experiences in many domestic medical institutions.
2013 06 As of end of June 2013, MIRC employees totaled 819 people, including 5 in senior management, 448 in R&D, 168 in administration, 11 in management, 36 technicians, 98 contract-based people and 53 dispatched employees.
2013 06 On June 5, 2013, MIRDC’s small-and-medium-sized wind turbine testing platform in Cigu, Tainan secured TUV SUD accreditation for small wind turbine testing facilities to become the first TUV SUD-accredited testing lab of its kind in Asia, and subsequent cooperations with TUV SUD on international certification services are expected.
2013 06 On June 30, 2013, a demonstration hot-stamping production line was installed under a MOEA Environment-building Technology Development Project with a budget of NT$1.8 million. Mold tests with successful results had been conducted jointly by mold and material companies.
2013 06 Acrow Machinery develops tool shank in partnership with MIRDC Acrow Machinery in partnership with MIDRC has developed an ultrasonic vibration assisted tool shank that saves cost and time for cutting in processing glass touch-screens for smart phones and tablet computers. This product has secured CE accreditation and will be on display in the 23rd International Optoelectronics Exhibition in Taipei.
