2016 04 MIRDC executes continuous energy technology development program of research organization “The Project of Developing Innovative Separated Regenerative Combustion System” to integrate the R&D capabilities of Industrial Upgrading Service Department and Metal Processing R&D Department and develop the related key components technologies of design of locally made regenerative combustion system and regenerative body and high temperature resistant pipe. MIRDC has completed regenerative combustion design of the first sintering furnace for Taiwan investment casting industry and certification platform design of the first combustion system module in Taiwan. On April 28, 2016, MIRDC signed technology transfer with Jhong-Cheng Industrial Co., Ltd., and Whirlho Machine Co., Ltd. to expand the industrialization of project implementation achievements.
2016 04 MIRDC completed development of the first “fire pump blade” by applying medium 3D sand mold casting technology. The development introduced 3D printing sand mold technology and applied gas escape lane design to effectively increase more than 10% of product yield rate. In line with network ordering platform of 3D Printing Sand Casting Operational Service Center, MIRDC establishes the databank of forming statistics to realize the application between intelligent manufacturing and statistics bank, meantime MIRDC facilitates 25 potential makers to join the member recruit of 3D Printing Sand Casting Operational Service Center.
2016 03 On March 30, 2016, MEER Thermo Bottle of MIRDC won the Red Dot Design Award. The product is an innovative design to combine metal material R&D and product design. The bottle is formed with outstanding hydroforming technology to maximize interior space, the streamlined shape resembles waves of the ocean. The one-piece curved exterior is designed specifically for users with different palm sizes. This increases force application for holding the bottle and prevents slipping, making this effortless and ergonomic design humanized and convenient to use.
2016 03 MIRDC representative and Mr. Richard Yen, vice president of Altair for Global Automotive Industry signed “global strategic cooperation MOU”. In the future, both parties will combine design & analysis, trial production and module parts test of metal structural parts from MIRDC and simulation assisted design and structural lightweight technologies of Altair to jointly establish global strategic cooperation partnership and to provide the customers with a more complete services.
2016 02 MIRDC executes “Promotion Project of Establishing 3D Printing Sand Casting Operational Service Center” to introduce medium 3D printing sand casting system (Germany Voxeljet VX2000) and to station in Traditional Industry Creative & Value-added Center, MOEA. Using resources sharing strategy, MIRDC integrates the related core technologies in casting field accumulated for many years, including casting alloy design, casting mold design & design and metal casting for increasing technology transformation and upgrading of foundry industry.
2016 02 French ENSIE sent two research students to participate in R&D of additive manufacturing and space frame at Metal Processing R&D Department from February to June, 2016. Meantime two research students also visited Taiwan makers accompanied by MIRDC engineers to realize industrial profile in Taiwan to jointly solve technical problems. The incident is served as creating a new profile for MIRDC in international cooperation.
2016 01 In January 2016, MIRDC and National Center for High-performance Computing of NARLabs sealed an MOU on cooperation, signed by CEO Dr. Fu He-chong and Director Hsieh Si-kun respectively, with the aim of offering software services to the manufacturing sector in relation to R&D and innovation and cloud computing by establishing a CAE cloud center of value-added services based on industrial needs.
2016 01 In January 2016, MIRDC CEO Dr. Fu He-chong submitted his resignation, which was presented and approved at the 13th joint meeting of the 21st MIRDC boards of directors and supervisors, with vice CEO Mr. Cheng Jin-ming serving as acting CEO since 1 February, 2016.
2015 12 MIRDC hosted the Metal Technology Forum at Kaohsiung Exhibition Center on 3 December, 2015. Experts from home and abroad, including Dr. Reihart Prorawe, Director of Franuhofer ILT (Germany), Dr. KYOGOKU Hideki, National Director of Japan Additive Manufaturing Project (Japan), Dr. Yong Taek Im, KIMM Director (Korea), Lin Chiu-feng, advisor of MOEA Department of Industrial Technologies, Mr. Cheng Zheng-yuan, Chairman of 3-D Printing Association, and Mr. Wei Jia-ming, vice-CEO of MIRDC (Taiwan), were invited to present the latest status of R&D and applications in additive manufacturing in their respective countries and to share their views of future trends.
2015 12 In December 2015, MIRDC implemented an energy technology project on high-efficiency regenerative combustion, which brought together R&D capacities from its departments of Industrial Upgrading Services, Energy & Agile Systems, and Metal Processing. This project resulted in the creation of the first simulation system of mid-to-high temperature regenerative combustion along with composite regenerative combustion modules as well as an 18% performance gain for Tang Eng Steel Plant on the regenerative combustion system of its ladle preheaters. MIRDC also helped establish the R&D Alliance for Regenerative Combustion Technology by bringing together high-energy consuming steel and foundry industries and energy-saving equipment vendors to develop the ecosystem for regenerative combustion in Taiwan.
