MIRDC's microsphere team has successfully developed “microcarrier manufacturing technology and equipment” to win the Excelsior Award of the National Innovation Award on December 6. In addition to its application in chronic diseases (embolic drug carrier), the technology is now expanding to the field of aesthetic medicine, such as biodegradable polymer materials like polycaprolactone (PCL) and polylactic acid (PLLA) that can induce the body to generate collagen, such as Sculptra and Ellanse. The Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs entrusted Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) to build the "Demonstration site of intelligent manufacturing of stamping die industry" in order to move towards the goal of smart manufacturing, providing site visits for three major goals: value-heightening of products, manufacturing intelligence and digital management. The internal equipment of the site is all domestically produced, including servo press, automated robot arms, 3D scanning devices, etc. At the same time, the establishment of cloud production information platform, intelligent virtual die test and die development database, online die monitoring and other smart manufacturing systems became the cooperative R&D base of industry, official, academic and research sectors.

MIRDC held the International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing Technology in Metal Industries - An Examination of the Development of Aerospace Parts/Components Manufacturing Technologies at the Innovation Value-added Center of Traditional Industry, MOEA on October 7. With cross-country links to large-scale R&D institutes such as Georgia Tech, GE, Fraunhofer, and Tohoku University, partnerships with Taiwan’s aerospace leaders, Aviation Industry Development Company (AIDC) and Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corp., and co-organization with the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association, the Chinese National Federation of Industries, the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, and the Taiwan Aerospace Industry Association, the conference invited experts from Taiwan's aerospace components and metal processing industries to exchange and share the latest knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies around the world, explore how the metal industries can take the lead in the international market, and create opportunities in advance to move towards high-end international markets and to realize industrial applications.
