Expanding Opportunities between MIRDC and KIMM for International Cooperation with MOU Signing

On December 3, 2015, the MIRDC and the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) signed a MOU, with MIRDC being represented by President Dr. Ho-chung Fu and KIMM being represented by President Dr. Yong-Taek Im.
KIMM is Korea’s top research unit for the machinery and materials fields, and imposes a significant influence on Korea’s machinery and materials development. The signing of this MOU will promote a number of practical cooperations between MIRDC and KIMM, including research on topics that interests both parties. Researchers and experts from both organizations will also conduct exchange and participate in meetings/seminars and training hosted by both parties. In addition, both parties will begin sharing development resource and information. This close exchange relationship is expected to significantly improve research and development in the metal processing, machinery, and materials fields, and benefit industries in both countries.
This signing ceremony was held during the 2015 Metal Technology Forum hosted by MIRDC, in which KIMM President Yong-Taek Im is one of the experts. The Forum speakers came from Germany, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, and they introduced current additive manufacturing research and applications in Germany, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan respectively. These experts also shared their views on future development trends of this technology.
Today, the manufacturing technology initiates a global revolution. The United States, Germany, Japan, and other countries have proposed advanced manufacturing policies and developed related technologies. Of these technologies, additive manufacturing is an important topic concerned by different countries. The development of products and technologies related to additive manufacturing is also a focus of these countries. Thus, MIRDC hopes that this forum will effectively help domestic makers speed up their development of high added value products, assist manufacturers in crossing technical thresholds, and introduce industrial upgrading and transformation.
