The Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) and Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaboration between fundamental scientific research and clinical application development. The goal is to foster the development of innovative medical device hardware and software technologies, advance clinical research, and promote the industry’s progress, while establishing a long-term collaboration to drive growth in the biomedical sector and improve social welfare. On October 13, 2025, distinguished officials and guests witnessed the signing of the MOU between Ming-Lung Yu, President of Kaohsiung Medical University, and Chia-Ju Liu, Chairman of MIRDC, at the iBioMed Flagship Hall in the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
KMU is a life sciences research institution that conducts fundamental scientific studies and is committed to developing clinical platforms for medical devices. MIRDC specializes in preclinical research and has extensive capabilities in both medical device software and hardware technology. It is equipped to support industry development and bring innovative medical devices to clinical trials and market applications. By collaborating, both parties can effectively leverage their research and development resources to advance the biomedical industry and enhance social welfare.
KMU President Ming-Lung Yu expressed that the collaboration with MIRDC holds significant and far-reaching importance. KMU has been dedicated to research in life sciences and clinical medicine for many years. The university actively promotes the integration of medical education, clinical services, and industry innovation. Through its collaboration with MIRDC, it aims to fully integrate research and development resources, from basic research and clinical trials to productization, to establish a comprehensive innovation chain for medical devices, providing new momentum for Taiwan’s biomedical industry.
MIRDC Chairman Chia-Ju Liu stated that this partnership with KMU represents a major milestone in industry-academia collaboration for the advancement of innovative medical devices.
