The key technology for recycled foaming aluminum has unlimited potential for the development

Aluminum has important prospects in both industrial and daily life applications. To reduce the proportion of waste aluminum and increase the value of recycled aluminum, the Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA has paid attention to the global deployment of metal recycling technology, and has worked closely with MIRDC through the improvement of materials and processes to develop "Recycled Aluminum Cells Forming and Process Technology" in order to regenerate key metal materials to a higher value, and build the first domestic recycled aluminum low-pressure casting foam forming process equipment.

In the past, traditional methods mostly used powder metallurgy processes to foam aluminum, in which molecular compound foaming agents were added, and multiple production passes were required, and it was difficult to control the structure of the finished product, resulting in high raw material costs and low market acceptance. Now it is possible to use low-pressure casting for gas injection foaming to complete the filling and forming in the mold. Compared with powder metallurgy foaming technology, the cost is lower. Moreover, since the domestic industry already has the foundation of die-casting equipment, it can reduce the burden on the industry. Taking MIRDC as an example, due to the use of fully recycled aluminum (from industrial waste aluminum and civil waste aluminum bottles and cans), it not only reduces the amount of aluminum slag generated, but also effectively creates high-value applications of recycled aluminum.

In view of that there are more and more people are concerned about the safety of vehicles, the research and development of foaming aluminum can be applied to high-value anti-vibration electric vehicle components, such as electric vehicle power module frame, which are filled with foaming aluminum casting. It can increase the damping effect by 24%, or it can be applied to the battery box of electric vehicles. It is filled with foaming aluminum casting, which can reduce the weight of the lock by 50% and maintain a good damping effect also.

Under the continuous low-pressure casting for gas injection and foaming technology, a large area of products can be produced in the future. The porous structure has the functions of absorption, vibration reduction, heat insulation and electromagnetic shielding. Applications of structure and function materials include acoustic absorption, heat insulation, flame retardant and anti-electromagnetic wave building materials, machine tool vibration proof plates, etc. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, through key manufacturing processes, re-manufactured recycled aluminum into lightweight and high-function materials, increasing added value by 5-10 times more to assist the industry move towards sustainability in the future.
