MIRDC and TIUA Join Hands in Developing Talent for the Instrumentation Industry

The label, "Made in Taiwan", is the pride of our country. As a modernized island of high-tech industries that produces high quality products, Taiwan relies on detecting instruments to uphold that quality. Whether it's agriculture, forestry, fishing, husbandry, mining, manufacturing, or even the service industry, they are all potential clients of the instrumentation industry, which plays a role in virtually all areas where human economic activity can be found. That means the instrumentation industry is truly influential. And instruments often rely upon the manual operation of expert professionals with abundant experience to maximize their value. With the aid of the Coordinated Development of Local Industries Project of the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Dr. Ren-Yi Lin, the Chairman of the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) and John Hsu, the president of Taiwan Instruments United Association (TIUA) signed an MOU to fulfill the instrumentation industry's demand for technical personnel. The two organizations will establish a training promotion task group that aims to systematically cultivate instrumentation talent by leveraging MIRDC's proficiency accumulated over years in developing industry talent with the goal of resolving the shared issue of the dearth of talent, and to improve industry capability and competitiveness.

In the past, instrumentation-related training placed more emphasis on theory rather than instrument overhauling and process analysis experience. When instruments are damaged or break down, the staff's technical and operational capabilities become the limiting factor in production and research progress. Thus, the supply of science and engineering professionals in fields such as instrument control, high-level research, instrument application, and process analysis is a critical issue. Even if the problem of labor shortage is solved, the issue of insufficient technical skills of incumbent workers still exists. Therefore, the search for a solution to satisfy the industry's demand for professionals is quite the urgent matter.

Dr. Ren-Yi Lin, the Chairman of MIRDC indicates that the Centre owns 40+ years of experience in training, and has stayed one step ahead of the demand for knowledge and personnel to train first-class experts for enterprises. MIRDC has accumulated plenty of experience in training people and hopes to build upon its past experience training professionals for the fastener industry to provide customized solutions for industry demands and human resource needs and develop an innovative mode of collaboration with the instrumentation industry.

John Hsu, the president of TIUA pointed out that training professionals for the sustainable development of the instruments industry can allow more systematic organizational management, and introduce experts to develop scientific methods that turn theory into practice and reduce the impact on production lines. The signing of the MOU today is just the beginning. The Association will work closely with MIRDC to develop labor resources for the instrumentation and equipment industry to meet the key labor demands of the industry association.
