The goal of MIRDC

Is to promote the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in the country.

To achieve this goal

The Centre carries out research and development and provides an array of services for technology transfer to the industrial community.

Nitinol Innovative Technology (NIT) made the final step to success by producing domestic nitinol

Due to Taiwan related industries have a low mastery of material properties, which limits the pace of development. As a result, all high-end metal raw materials rely on import. In view of this, MIRDC cooperated with the inventor of Nitinol, Dr. Frederick Wang, and introduced years of technology inheritance from abroad. Through the technology transfer, MIRDC has successfully assisted the establishment of Taiwan’s first domestically produced Nitinol Innovative Technology. The advent of "NIT" is a crucial step for the domestically produced nickel-titanium alloy materials, which is an important factor for the establishment of high-end alloy materials.

Nitinol Innovative Technology (NIT) was founded in Kaohsiung in September, 2016. In 2018, the company officially entered the Luzhu Science Park, with its complete equipment and a standard factory building of 600 square meters, and mass production of orders, the company is known as the only manufacturer which produces medical-grade Nitinol in Taiwan. Nickel-titanium alloy materials have excellent super-elasticity and shape memory recovery characteristics, which are often applied to aviation fasteners, civil and industrial products and other fields. In addition, nickel-titanium alloy materials have good biocompatibility, which can be applied to medical industry, including dental correction, stents, and minimally invasive devices. Nitinol Innovative Technology (NIT) not only produces medical grade nickel-titanium wires and tubes that meet ASTM F2063 specifications, but also provides actuator wires, customized product production, product development testing and consulting services.

Looking at the global development trend of high-end metal materials, MIRDC transfers key technology to Nitinol Innovative Technology (NIT), which not only implements MIRDC’s industrialization goal of promoting the application of high-value metal materials, but also fills up the industrial gap in Taiwan nickel-titanium alloy upstream materials. Titanium alloy materials are not only used in the medical field, but also used for many business opportunities in industry and consumer products. Mr. Shu-Ken Tsai, the Chairman of the Board of Nitinol Innovative Technology (NIT) stated that, the company is one of the few companies in the world who master the design, processing and manufacturing of nickel-titanium components, geometric shaping, and characteristic heat treatment. Nitinol has obtained ISO in 2019 13485 and ISO 9001 certification, has also joined the European and domestic medical supply chain and acquired FDA certification, and will continue to expand the American and Asian markets in the future.
