The Global Wind Organization Selects the Maritime Technology Innovation Center as the Training Team

The Maritime Technology Innovation Center (MTIC) established by the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs commissioned the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) to manage overall operations for training marine technology talent, developing innovative technologies, and providing services for the industry. MTIC is the first training organization in Asia that offers comprehensive training for the offshore wind energy industry. After being certified by the Global Wind Organization (GWO) and becoming a GWO Certified Training Provider in January 2021, MTIC has put all of its effort into providing GWO and related training for the wind energy industry, and works with universities and colleges, public sector resources, and industrial experts to provide wind energy industry concept forums and courses. MTIC has gradually become the key driver of industry-academia collaboration in the development of offshore wind energy in Taiwan.

Since January, with strong support from the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, MTIC completed instructor training for more than 15 people. With the capability to provide training for 25 modules, MTIC met the training needs of approximately 50 domestic and foreign companies, and helped the industry train more than 400 people. The team’s efforts have also received international recognition. On September 13, GWO announced that MTIC by MIRDC stood out from 441 GWO certified training organizations and was selected as the Training Team of the Year: Newcomer and Training Team of the Year: Asia/Pacific for 2021. Being selected not only represents recognition from GWO, but also represents recognition for MTIC’s training capability and quality from domestic and foreign wind energy companies.

Phase 2 wind farms are currently under active construction. The Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs released the zonal development plan for phase 3 offshore wind energy in August. Talent development and technical training will be an important factor in developing Taiwan's offshore wind energy industry. MIRDC and MTIC will continue to increase training capability and are committed to helping companies develop and train talent. In cooperation with promotion policies, we will encourage companies and talent to invest in the wind energy industry, hoping that more companies, schools, and training organizations will join together to push Taiwan’s offshore wind energy industry to its peak. We will also help domestic and foreign companies take advantage of our leadership in offshore wind energy to deploy the booming development of wind energy in the Asia-Pacific region.
